Flight of the Conchords land in US
Musical comedians and HBO stars Flight of the Conchords [ tickets ] are gearing up for the US release of their debut full-length album and will support it with a US tour.The New Zealand-bred duo will kick things off with an April 24 in-store performance at Hollywood, CA's Amoeba Music. In May, they'll dive into a 12-show, coast-to-coast trek that includes a two-night stand in New York City and a performance at George, WA's Sasquatch! Festival. Details are listed below.Earlier this year, Flight of the Conchords were stunned to learn their 2007 EP, "The Distant Future," snagged a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. It was the first time a Kiwi act has won a Grammy in 24 years, according to reports.The duo will follow that six-track EP with its self-titled full-length album, which is due April 22. The set, produced by Mickey Petralia (Beck, Midnight Vultures), features fully fleshed out versions of Flight of the Conchords' concert and television favorites such as "Business Time" and "Ladies of the World." "These 15 songs pay homage to Pet Shop Boys, censorship, Marvin Gaye, sexism, Shabba Ranks, and backhanded compliments," according to the band's label, Sub Pop Records. A few of the tunes are streaming at Flight of the Conchords' MySpace page.In addition to thrilling concertgoers with their folk-rock comedy stylings, the bandmates--Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement--have built a cult following through the "Flight of the Conchords" HBO series, which premiered last summer. The show follows the trials and tribulations of a digi-folk duo from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The series is expected to return for a second season next year.
